Ben Hoey opened the Simonstown account for 2024 with two points (1x45). Luke Caffrey pointed and Briain Conlon blasted to visitors net to give Simons a 1—3 to 0—1 after 10 minutes. Further points were tagged on by Eoghan Gough, Shane McEnery and Luke Caffrey. After good inter passing teamwork Ben Hoey finished to the net. Josh Carolan surged forward to split the posts. Curragha finished the first half scoring with a pointed free. Simonstown led 2—7 to 0—3 at the break.
Padraig McKeever got his first score of the year in first minute of second half and then Aaron Chinchilla from corner back joined the attack on two occasions and contributed two points. Sub Jack Melia fired over to leave Simonstown leading 2—11 to 0—4 with forty five minutes on the clock. Fine team work again led to Ben Hoey's second goal and Padraig McKeever completed the scoring with a point.
Full back line of Mark Devlin, Stephen Moran and Aaron Chinchilla were in fine defensive form. Half backs Brian McGrath, Josh Carolan, and David McKeever were picking up loose ball, probing and setting up scoring opportunites for their forward colleagues. Curragha were short a number of influential players due to County commitments. Simonstown used eleven (11) subs, meaning 26 players were involved in the action during the match. A very welcome development in the competition by the County Board.
