Simonstowns third team travelled to Ashbourne on Thursday night and returned to Navan with the league points on offer with a strong finish in the last quarter.
Joe Lyons open the scoring for the visitors but Ashbourne recovered to go 0—2 to 0—1 up after six minutes. Harry Devlin levelled form play before Lyons finished to the net to put Simons 1—2 to 0—2 in front. Two points (1f) from Rory O Connor who had moved to full forward and some well taken scores by the Ashbourne men saw Simons lead by the mininum at the break 1—4 to 0—6.
As the lights came on scoring chances were scarce but never the less O Connor with two (1F) and Devlin put the Navan men 1—7 to 0—7 with ten minutes remaining on the clock. Simonstown then dominated the last ten minutes. Five points were added on,all from play by Sean Heavey, Harry Devlin, Rory O Connor, Cormac McHugh and David Kavanagh that rounded off a fine evenings work to see them win 1—12 to 0—7. The Simons defending was outstanding in second half with tight marking and quiet a number of scoring attempts blocked down. They limited Ashbourne to just one pointed free for the thirty fthree minutes.
